Friday 25

It was the first day at Our Cabana. And this place is so magical and beautiful … it’s really a wonderful place with lots of scenery, very green and calm. It all started with breakfast and then a tour of Our Cabana where we were familiarized with all the different buildings and gardens. Next was our intro to Mexican customs and traditions … where we did various activities such as make guacamole and decorate a piñata… very cultural experience, we also got play a Mexican instrument. It’s a bit like a recorder but smaller and very fun and interesting to play.

Next we got an introduction to the craft house, where we found out about the different crafts we were able to do during our time here. After that was lunch mmmmm good! ….. later on in the day was a game we played called the 4 world centres game. It was really fun, it enabled the dorms to work together as a team with a very interesting twist in the end. Last for the day was the telling of the Our Cabana story ‘the musical. The dorms once again working together to tell well, dramatically act and sing out the story. Lots of fun in that activity, lots of laughs too.

Unfortunately, this night ended with thunderstorms, lightening and rain, that was not fun at all. Most girls left for their dorms while a few stayed back to become a part of and learn more about a secret society… very interesting stuff, but shhhh it’s a big secret. Overall the stay here had been fantastic so far. Can’t wait for more.

Saturday 26

This morning the Girl Guides and Scouts at Our Cabana were the proud winners of two bronze, two silver and two gold Olympic medals. Competing in both sports and spirit activities the girls made their own cheers and pushed their physical strength to the limits.

The games included a range of relays, an obstacle course, dizzy baseball and tangrams. After this busy morning the girls were ready for more sight seeing to the local pyramids and of course… shopping!! Everyone reminisced on the days activity by… creating human sculptures!

Sunday 27

The camp took a trip to Tepoztlan today. We visited some open air markets and learned how to barter. There was also a 15^th century church there. Many of us attended mass. Other girl guides took a tour of the monastery. After that we came back for lunch and then it was the international festival part one. Then we had dinner, a little free time, and a peace ceremony.

Monday 28

Today was fun. In the morning we had eggs, fruit, yogurt, and cereal for breakfast. After breakfast we held the second part of the International Festival. We saw presentations from Canada, Tennessee, England, Argentina, GSUSA, and Washington D.C. After all the presentations we swapped badges and crafty things. Then we had lunch and then we had free time where we went to the pool, craft house, etc. Then we watched a “Girls Worldwide Say” presentation video.
After that we did an exercise with dropping eggs to learn about our strengths and weaknesses and we learned to appreciate our time at Our Cabana because there are many people who couldn’t be here. Later we had dinner and they introduced the service project we will do tomorrow. Then we had a KICK BUTT salsa lesson. It was so much fun; we learned a lot of new steps. Today was awesomelicoustastic!!!!!

Tuesday 29

Today after colours we had pancakes for breakfast (YUM). They reminded me of home. We then prepared for our Mexican friends from VAMOS to arrive. We played games, ate healthy foods, made astounding crafts and made deep connections. They were so adorable, we all wanted to hold them forever. Sadly, after our Amigos left,

we cleaned up and had the afternoon free. Some girls went shopping whilst others relaxed at the Cabaña. There was optional swimming and karaoke after dinner. We always end the night with beautiful bonding and hot showers, whilst climbing into bed.

Wednesday 30

Today we went to Taxco, which is called the Silver capital of Mexico. We learnt how to tell the difference between real and fake silver. Then we were free to explore and have a good shop! Some of us went to eat at 100% natural, which was a restaurant (the smoothies were huge!) Some of us went to see the Cathedral, which was amazing! Then we made our way back to the silver shop to meet up. Woop!

We had about 10 mins before we had dinner and then we had a good sing song around the camp fire! Yay for singing! Pizza Hut YAY!!

Thursday 31

Some of the group spent an interesting morning at the Mayan ruins of Xochicalco. The observatory and the drawings on the Plume Temple were marvelous. Others relaxed around camp, worked on finishing their craft projects, or went shopping.

This evening we had a wonderful Mexican Fiesta!! The Mariachi Band serenaded us all for over an hour. We danced, sang songs, and each took turns to hit the piñata. After several tries, the piñata finally opened and delivered her sweet treats and peanuts. The traditional Mexican food was great and we were satisfied. We could not have asked for better weather and long for more of everything long after the closing ceremony. Our Cabana will always hold a special place in our hearts!!!

This evening was the Mexican Fiesta with a Maria

chi band. There was good food, lots of dancing, and great friendship. Following that, the travel groups presented their scrapbook pages. The staff then presented the closing ceremony which was very touching with a slide show of picture memories from our busy week.
