Thinking Day – Butterfly Event –Adults-

During February each year we hold our Butterfly events. Of course during the February event there is also the wonderful opportunity of being at Our Cabana for Thinking Day, a very special moment for everyone. The Butterfly events are for 9 nights and they include an overnight trip to Angangeo in the state of Michoacan to visit the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary of El Rosario. We spend one night in a village near the sanctuary where you will see the marvelous sight of butterflies coming to life in the warmth of the sun. Each year, millions of butterflies migrate from the north of United State and south of Canada to spend the winter months and reproduce in the state of Michoacan, Mexico . The sights are spectacular and well worth the climb up through the mountain paths to see them clinging to the trees.

October 26 – November 4 Mexican Festivals & Tradi
tions - Day of the Dead -Adults-

This eight night event will focus on Mexican traditions, particularly the Day of the Dead. In this most characteristic celebration, the souls of the dead are believed to return to earth on November 2. Families build altars in their homes and visit graveyards to commune with their dead, taking garlands and gifts of the dead one’s favourite foods and objects.
A happy atmosphere prevails. Flowers are used in profusion, especially marigolds which have had ceremonial importance since before Spanish times.
As the Day of the Dead approaches, shops and markets fill with countless toy coffins and paper, cardboard and clay skeletons, many of them engaged in lively activities such as riding a bicycle, playing music, or getting married. Most amazing are the rows of chocolate and candy skulls, skeletons, and coffins that appear in market stalls -- an obvious indication of the almost joyful nature of the festival, which reunites the living with their dead. You will see skull and skeleton motifs everywhere -- devices which the Mexicans use to continually remind themselves of their own mortality.

Cost: US$ 580 per person as Room & Board plus US$ 120 program fee.
